Arsenal signing Cohen Bramall a great story 0

I have to be honest when I heard that Arsenal were signing a player from non-league I thought it was a joke. Every transfer window the Gunners are linked with one man and his dog, but signing a player from Hednesford Town sounds like something somebody would write in a work of fiction.

However, the Gunners have taken the chance on 20-year-old full-back Cohen Bramall and good luck to the lad. I cannot say I have seen much of the left-back, but his highlights reel is pretty impressive, which does not tell us that much about a player these days.

Chelsea and Arsenal head into Saturday lunchtime’s kick-off at Stamford Bridge fighting for the Premier League title. The home side are currently four points clear of the Gunners, but Arsene Wenger’s men have a game in-hand on the Blues.

Chelsea defeated Galatasaray 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night to progress into the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Goals from Samuel Eto’o and Gary Cahill sealed their victory. The Champions League victory was a far cry from the 1-0 Premier League defeat against Aston Villa at the weekend.

Arsenal showed great spirit to defeat local-rivals Tottenham 1-0 at White Hart Lane on Sunday. Spurs had more of the ball at times during the north London derby, but the likes of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny again put in solid displays at the back to keep the home side out.

Ground out

The victory over Spurs was not pretty on the eye, as Arsenal ground out out the win they needed to keep pace with their rivals. Arsenal sides in recent seasons have struggled to grind out results.

How many Arsenal players should be in the England World Cup squad? 0

Two Arsenal players appeared in England’s 1-0 friendly win over Denmark at Wembley on Wednesday night. In truth it was an underwhelming display by the Three Lions and the game was only won by a superb piece of individual skill from Southampton substitute Adam Lallana, who set up Daniel Sturridge for the only goal of the game.

The two Gunners players on display for England were midfield pair Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Neither did their cause for a place in the Three Lions World Cup much good.

Arsenal will be looking to return to the top of the Premier League table, as the Gunners host title rivals Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night. Both teams have dropped down the table this weekend.

The Gunners have dropped to third place and the Blues to fourth, after victories for Liverpool and Manchester City on Saturday. The home side could move back to the top of the table with victory, while Chelsea would go second with a win, only behind league leaders Liverpool on goal difference.

England boss Roy Hodgson has suggested that Chelsea full-back Ashley Cole does not have a guaranteed spot on the plane to Brazil, thus hinting that Arsenal’s Kieran Gibbs still has a chance to make England’s World Cup squad.

Ashley Cole has been dropped by Jose Mourinho for the Premiership clash against West Brom after Cesar Azpilicueta had impressed at left-back in the 3-0 triumph over Schalke.

The experienced defender has then received some more bad news, with Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson revealing that his place in the World Cup squad is in danger.

Revived Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs has revealed that he feared his career would be over after breaking a metatarsal back in November 2009.

The talented footballer has been battling various problems over the last few years, but he is finally enjoying an injury-free season.

However, he still remembers the telephone call he received from the doctor after breaking his metatarsal in the Champions League clash against Standard Liege.

“There was one point when I had a scan (on the metatarsal) and I was just waiting for the doctor to say it was all clear,” Gibbs said. “He rang me and said, ‘Look we are having a bit of trouble, mate’. I just thought, ‘Oh God, what is he going to say?

Arsenal full-back Kieran Gibbs is hoping injuries will pass him by this term after having to endure a real nightmare since breaking into the Gunners first team set-up.

The 23-year-old has been unable to realize his full potential due to various problems over the last few years, but he has finally managed to get a longer run in the side since recovering from the latest thigh injury.

For the first time after quite a while, Gibbs has started a new season injury-free and has featured in every one of Arsenal’s first five Premier League fixtures. The talented defender has revealed reasons behind his improved fitness.
