Arsenal continue to put strong effort into signing both Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus and Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina on a permanent deal, according to numerous sources. However, neither deal represents straightforward business, and various complications are the reason why neither has made the switch yet.

The Gunners want Arthur on a straight loan for the rest of the season and nothing more. On the other hand, Juventus are only prepared to let the midfielder go if they secure a proper replacement (they’ve been linked with Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria), as head coach Massimiliano Allegri feels he needs a reliable midfielder outside his regular starting XI.

Arsenal are still in talks with Juventus over the possibility of signing Arthur Melo on loan for the rest of the season, according to Turin-based outlet Tuttosport.

The Gunners have been working hard to identify a central midfielder to be added to their ranks for a while now, with manager Mikel Arteta apparently feeling that this particular segment of the squad is being stretched too thin. The need became more obvious, if only for a short while, after Granit Xhaka earned a straight red card in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal against Liverpool at Anfield last week. As it stands, the Swiss international will now miss the second leg against Liverpool on Thursday, as well as and the Premier League match against Burnley on Sunday because this was the second time he’s been sent off this season.

According to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are pushing hard to complete the signing of Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus for the rest of the season.

Arthur joined Juventus from Barcelona in the summer of 2020 for a fee that was reported to have stood around £70 million, but in fact it was a part of an exchange which saw Miralem Pjanic, also linked with Arsenal in the past, go the other way as the two European heavyweights sought for ways to set their financial books in order.
