Anthony Martial’s biggest Arsenal hint yet? 2

Posted on April 30, 2018 by Harry Kettle

This weekend saw Arsene Wenger’s career of managing Arsenal against Manchester United end in typical fashion – with The Red Devils scoring late in the day to break the hearts of the Gunners. Still, it was an encouraging performance from Arsenal in more ways than one, and as they look ahead to next season they can be optimistic provided a new manager comes in that’s able to get the best out of this squad.

As Arsenal prepare to take on Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, it will certainly be an occasion for Alexis Sanchez. The ex-Gunner will be playing against his old club for the first time since his move in January. He praised Arsene Wenger after the Frenchman made his decision to leave at the end of the season public last week, calling him a ’legend and a gentleman’.

Sanchez claims he’s still adapting to life in Manchester, and adds that United have more history than Arsenal and aim to win trophies next season – a classic case of trying to look good for your new employers, it seems.

As reported by The Times, it seems as if Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has recently been interested in a move down to North London. The 22-year-old has been on the fringe of superstardom for what feels like forever at Old Trafford, and despite built up as the ‘next big thing’, he hasn’t quite burst into life as many fans were expecting him to.

According to the Times, via the Metro, Manchester United’s French forward Anthony Martial wanted to join Arsenal in January as part of the deal that saw Alexis Sanchez head for Old Trafford.

However, reportedly United boss Jose Mourinho blocked the move and Armenian playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan moved to north London instead. The former Dortmund star has enjoyed a decent start to life with the Gunners.

Frustrated young talent

Martial is no doubt a top young player with immense potential. However, the 22-year-old has struggled for regular first-team football this season, especially since Sanchez’s move to the Red Devils.

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho may sell young French forward Anthony Martial this summer, as he looks to reshape his squad. The Portuguese boss has been very vocal in the criticism of his squad, apart from for some reason Nemanja Matic and Romelu Lukaku.

Rumours are doing the rounds suggest that Arsenal may be interested in signing the forward this summer.

Struggled for first team football this season

Martial has struggled for first team football this season at Old Trafford. The deal that saw the forward arrive at United cost the Red Devils a potential transfer fee of £58million.

The protracted Alexis Sanchez transfer saga has rumbled on for so long that it is difficult to remember a time when his future was not being discussed.

It has been reported in the last few days that Manchester United now lead the race for his signature, with Manchester City supposedly unwilling to pay the amount that Arsenal have asked for.

United are reportedly happy to do so, while a proposed deal seeing money and Henrikh Mkhitaryan going to Arsenal in exchange for Sanchez has been the talk of the back pages.

Arsenal reportedly want to exchange wantaway forward Alexis Sanchez for Manchester United Anthony Martial. The Chilean attacker has arisen as a reported main-target for United with Manchester City’s interest waning after the Gunners outlined their demands for the player.

Arsenal were forced to stomach a damaging loss at the hands of struggling Bournemouth on Sunday as their Premier League campaign took yet another body-blow. Hector Bellerin opened the scoring, but the visitors could not hold onto their lead as Callum Wilson and Jordon Ibe struck to take all three points for the relegation-threatened side.

Arsenal could lose out on Martial after reported Inter interest 0

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial could be on his way out of Old Trafford this summer, but not to Arsenal, according to Sky Italia via Football365. The French international struggled for form last season and looked to be on his way out of the club as a result. Arsenal were heavily linked, but now Inter Milan are the latest side in the race for his signature.

The player’s cousin, who is a journalist based in Paris, said on the rumours: “I can confirm Inter’s interest in Anthony. However, he’s focusing solely on Manchester United. His thoughts are fixated on pre-season with United.” Martial, 21, scored just four Premier League goals in 25 appearances in 2016/17, finding himself out of the matchday squad too often.

Manchester United striker Anthony Martial responded to the news of his alleged transfer request this summer, claiming talk of him asking to leave the club to join Arsenal is “false. Reports came out early in the morning that Martial spoke to his manager to push for a move to Arsenal this summer. But it appears such claims weren’t true.

The 21-year-old, who signed from AS Monaco for £26m in 2015, nevertheless endured a difficult season at United. Martial lost his starting place in the side and was singled out for criticism by manager Jose Mourinho as a result of his inconsistency.

Arsenal reportedly chasing Manchester United star 0

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is prepared to pay around £40million for Manchester United forward Anthony Martial, according to the Daily Mail.

Any move for the young Frenchman will depend on whether the Gunners can nab Monaco’s star striker Kylian Mbappe, which seems unlikely as most of Europe’s top teams are interested in signing the wonderkid.

Out of favour at United

Martial has not quite lived up to his potential since arriving at the club from Monaco in the summer of 2015 for a fee that could eventually reach an eye-watering £57.6 million.
