Arsenal’s striker hunt continues following Vardy snub 2

Posted on June 23, 2016 by David Nugent

Arsenal’s hunt for a new striker will continue after it was announced that Leicester and England striker Jamie Vardy has signed a new four-year deal with the Foxes.

The Gunners attempted to sign Vardy prior to Euro 2016 by activating a £20million in his contract and Vardy was believed to be mulling the move over while on international duty with France at Euro 2016.

Bigger and higher expectations at Arsenal

There are probably a few factors that may have made the striker snub a move to north London, but one of them may have been bigger expectations at the Emirates.

According to the Independent, Real Madrid have exercised their right to buy-back Spanish international striker Alvaro Morata from Italian giants Juventus for £23million.

It is now common practice for Spanish clubs to insert such buy-back clauses in young player’s contracts, just in case they wish to sign them back at a later date.

Completely financially motivated

Real Madrid are a club known to thrown money around, but buying Morata back from Juve may prove to be a masterstroke, with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and of course Arsenal all reported to be interested in signing the 23-year-old.

Leicester and England striker Jamie Vardy will not consider his club future until after the Three Lions campaign at Euro 2016, according to the Guardian anyway.

There have been rumours and speculation about whether the striker will join the north London club in a £20million deal or stay in the Midlands since the Gunners activated the release clause in his contract.

Mixed reaction to the news

In truth the Gunners move for the 29-year-old England international was met by a mixed reception from the clubs fans. The former-Halifax star scored 24 goals in the Premier League, as the Foxes became the most unlikely Premier League champions in the history of the competition.

Arsenal have received some very good news at the start of the week as long-term target Alvaro Morata moved to confirm that he is seriously thinking about moving to English Premier League.

The Spain international is waiting to hear whether Real Madrid will exercise the buy-back clause, but even if los Blancos fail to do so, he could be leaving Turin in the summer transfer window.

Namely, Morata has been heavily linked with a summer switch to England and Arsenal are believed to be one of the main candidates for his signature.

Is Alvaro Morata the striking solution for Arsenal? 0

According to the Metro and reports from Spain, Arsenal are the favourites to sign Juventus striker Alvaro Morata this summer. The former-Real Madrid star is believed to be in-demand, with the likes of Chelsea and even former-club Real interested in re-signing him.

Not really a prolific striker

The strange thing is for a striker who is so in-demand Morata is not very prolific in front of goal and never has been really. A tally of eight goals in 34 appearances is definitely nothing to get excited about and certainly would not suggest he can do anything that the current Gunners strikers cannot.

Arsene Wenger is expected to complete a £30 million deal for Granit Xhaka this week as the Swiss midfielder will become Frenchman’s first piece of business this summer.

However, Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder is set to become just first in line as Arsenal boss is prepared to initiate a £80 million splurge in his efforts to complete a string summer deals that are believed to lift Arsenal to another level.

It is understood that Arsenal are keen to add a top class striker and a defender to their ranks and that Arsene Wenger has already identified the desired targets.

Arsenal have been linked with a big-money move for Juventus striker Alvaro Morata this summer, with reports suggesting a £50M bid is in the offing from the Premier League runners-up. However, such a valuation seems too high for the Gunners to meet which would pour cold water on such transfer talk. But given Morata has been used sparingly by Juventus in recent months, he may well consider a move.

The Daily Mirror is reporting that Arsenal are the latest high-profile club to have joined the race for Juventus striker Alvaro Morata as they aim to sign a replacement for Danny Welbeck.

The England star is expected to miss around nine months through a knee injury, meaning that he is not only ruled out of the Euro 2016 finals, but is also going to be unavailable for a big part of next season.

As a result, Arsenal are in the market for a new centre forward and the latest reports suggest that Arsene Wenger has set his sights on Juventus hotshot Alvaro Morata.

Arsene Wenger was urged by Arsenal board to make serious moves during the forthcoming transfer window following a sleepy summer of 2015 when Petr Cech was the only addition to Arsenal squad.

The French manager is apparently ready to return to market with a couple of high-profile buys and Juventus striker Alvaro Morata is believed to be top of the transfer wishlist for Arsenal boss.

Alvaro Morata has had some sparkling moments during the ongoing season, but has still been used as a substitute most of the time by Juventus manager Max Allegri.
