Should Unai Emery consider dropping Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang? 2

Posted on August 27, 2018 by David Nugent

In the past, I have talked about whether French striker Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang should start together for Arsenal up front as a pair. Gunners boss Emery has ruled that scenario out.

Emery’s admission means that one or the other striker will play as the lone front man for the Gunners, with maybe the other playing out wide. Aubameyang has been the chosen striker in the opening three top-flight games and he has blanked in all three games. However, in all three games, Lacazette has come on and Aubameyang has moved to the flank.

Olivier Giroud may need to leave Arsenal to save his career 0

As my one of my colleagues wrote earlier today, Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is a reported transfer target of Chelsea, if the Blues fail to sign Roma’s Edin Dzeko.

The 31-year-old had previously been linked with a move to Dortmund as part of a deal for BVB striker Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang. However, according to Sky Sports, the French forward will not be moving to the German giants this month.

Struggle for playing time

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has stated that nobody will leave if nobody comes in. The French veteran also admitted that he wanted Giroud to stay at the club. However, you get the feeling that if the Gunners struck a deal for Aubameyang, then Giroud would be surplus to requirements.

Ivan Gazidis in Germany to pursue Aubameyang deal 0

Posted on January 22, 2018 by David Nugent

According to Sky Sports, Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis is in Germany in an effort to sign Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gunners have been long-term admirers of the striker and speculation in the media suggests that BVB may be willing to sell for around 60m Euros this month. The Gabon international has endured a number of disciplinarian problems of late at the German club, as it is believed he wishes to make the move to north London. It seems the players wish to leave may persuade Dortmund to sell.

Aubameyang is a prolific scorer

Arsenal record comfortable win over Palace 1

Posted on January 20, 2018 by David Nugent

Arsenal recorded a comfortable 4-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon at the Emirates, after four goals in the first 22 minutes of the game.

Arsenal made a quick start to the game, as Alex Iwobi’s shot from the edge of the area was straight at Wayne Hennessey on six minutes. From the resulting corner kick, the Gunners took the lead. Granit Xhaka’s corner kick found Nacho Monreal at the far post and the defender headed home from close range.

Some major questions need to be answered by Wenger this summer 0

Posted on June 15, 2017 by David Nugent

Here we are at the beginning of another summer at Arsenal under veteran French boss Arsene Wenger. Last season was a poor one in terms of the Premier League, as the Gunners failed to finish in the top-four for the first time in a decade.

However, the Gunners also won the FA Cup for the third time in just four seasons. The FA Cup triumph has not papered over the cracks at the Emirates.

Arsenal were simply not good enough last season and the majority of the fans know that, even if Wenger likes to bury his head in the sand.

Arsenal given hope in their long-running pursuit for Alexandre Lacazette 0

Posted on August 02, 2016 by Crippy Cooke

As reported in Sky Sports, Olympique Lyonnais manager Bruno Genesio has admitted the decision to allow coveted striker Alexandra Lacazette to leave rests on the club and not him. Arsenal are desperate to bolster their frontline, and despite being rebuffed in their previous efforts this summer they look determined to snag the French international.

Lyon slapped a hefty price tag on his head as a result of their determination to keep him at the Stade des Lumières, but Arsenal aren’t giving up their pursuit for Lacazette as they’re currently on course to start the new Premier League season without a first-team striker being fit.

Will Arsenal make any more signings this summer? 2

Posted on July 25, 2016 by David Nugent

It seems Arsenal is one of the most talked about clubs when it comes to transfer every window. The usual set of rumours is wheeled out as new. Gonzalo Higuain, Karim Benzema, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexander Lacazette all constantly set to sign for the Gunners.

Admission of guilt

All spotted at Euston or Heathrow heading to sign for Arsenal. All these stories are made to sell newspapers and space on websites. I cannot absolve myself from the blame on this issue, as obviously, we speculate about prospective new signings daily.

Arsenal renew interest in Alexander Lacazette 1

Posted on July 20, 2016 by David Nugent

According to Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli, Arsenal has made further contact with Lyon regarding striker Alexander Lacazette. A fee of around £42million has been mooted for the French international striker.

The journalist also claims that Arsenal has not made contact with Inter over the availability of Argentinian forward Marco Icardi, despite reports to the contrary elsewhere.

Lacazette rumour is years old

Whether there is any truth in this story remains to be seen. The Gunners have been linked with the prolific striker for the last few years. There are two reasons the link persists. One reason is that he is French and the other is that he seems to know where the back of the net is.

Arsenal really cannot rely upon Theo Walcott as a striker 0

Posted on July 16, 2016 by David Nugent

The striking situation is starting to look highly worrying at Arsenal.  Danny Welbeck has a long-term injury, Alexis Sanchez has come back from the Copa America with an injury and French international Olivier Giroud has been given a month off to recover following Euro 2016.

That leaves the Gunners with a major lack of strikers. It seems the team from north London may start the season with winger Theo Walcott up front, which let’s face it is not exactly a great solution.

Walcott is wildly inconsistent

Japanese striker Takuma Asano one for the future 1

Posted on July 11, 2016 by David Nugent

Young Japanese striker Takuma Asano produced a brace in Sanfreece Hiroshima’s 4-2 defeat against Kashima Antlers in the J-League. The 21-year-old has agreed a summer move to Arsenal and the move will be ratified when the youngster undergoes a medical and his international clearance is granted.

The youngster is very much considered one for the future, but his record this season is decent, as he has scored nine times in 21 appearances for his current team. He has scored 27 goals in 93 senior appearances overall.

Unlikely to be playing first team next season
