Suarez loan fails
Arsenal are apparently unlikely to sanction a €20 million deal to make Denis Suarez a Gunner on a permanent basis this summer.
The midfielder, considered as a possible long-term replacement for the Juventus-bound Aaron Ramsey, arrived to the club in January on loan from Barcelona. However, it appears he has thoroughly failed to impress manager Unai Emery, and as a consequence he has made only six appearances in an Arsenal shirt; all by coming in off the bench.
Now he has suffered a groin injury, and it remains to be seen if he’ll play again this season.
As relayed by a number of outlets, his agent Guende cast a huge shadow of doubt over Suarez’s future at Arsenal by telling Radio KissKiss that the loan spell in England didn’t go as planned, that he has played far too little and now he is injured.
Guende also mentioned interest from Arsenal’s Europa League opponents Napoli in the Spaniard, and added that it was good for his client to have a club always striving for big things monitoring him.
Interest in Thauvin
According to various reports, former Newcastle winger Florian Thauvin is on Arsenal’s radar.
It’s no secret that Emery wants to add a winger to his ranks, given that the club failed to sign Ivan Perišić of Inter Milan and Yannick Carrasco of Dalian Yifang in January. The manager has often deployed the likes of Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Alex Iwobi and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in wide attacking positions, but not one of them is an outright winger by trade.
Thauvin is set to leave Olympique Marseille this summer should they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season, but that just highlights the importance of Arsenal either finishing inside the top four in the Premier League or winning the Europa League, in order for a player like the 26-year-old Frenchman to even consider coming to the Emirates.
