Emile Smith Rowe is very close to signing a new contract with Arsenal, according to the Evening Standard.
The Gunners are obviously busy in the transfer market these days, with one signing completed recently and a few more said to be in the pipeline. Left-back Nuno Tavares has arrived from Benfica and could feature on Saturday when Arsenal take on Rangers at the Ibrox. Midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga is set to follow from Anderlecht, while there’s reportedly still a lot of work to do regarding Brighton and Hove Albion defender Ben White. Arsenal have been credited with interest in Euro winner Manuel Locatelli of Sassuolo, but they face competition from Juventus and the Italy international is believed to prefer a move to Turin.
Be that as it may, the club are obviously working on keeping the talent already in their ranks. Bukayo Saka was of interest to a number of top clubs before signing a new four-year deal last summer. Kieran Tierney, arguably Arsenal’s best player these days, recommitted his future to the club for five more years last month. It’s only logical, that Smith Rowe, who has attracted strong interest from Aston Villa, is the next in line for improved terms and commitment prolonged.
Not being content with snatching Emiliano Buendia from Norwich City while Arsenal were still considering a move as an alternative to Martin Odegaard, Villa have made two attempts to prize Smith Rowe away from the Emirates as well. Naturally, Arsenal rejected their advances on both occasions, and manager Mikel Arteta was perfectly clear the other day as he confirmed the 20-year-old attacking midfielder would be going nowhere this summer.
The talks over Smith Rowe’s contract are now in the final stages, the Evening Standard claim to have ‘understood’, and the player is set to put his name on the dotted line.
