After winning the opening two Premier League games of the season, Arsenal’s results haven’t been that great. While the Anfield defeat and the North London Derby draw perhaps shouldn’t draw too much criticism, what happened at in the second half at the Vicarage was a complete shambles. Defensive mistakes and the inability of midfield to wrest the control of the game away from the charged up Hornets resulted in a two-goal lead being wasted and two points unnecessarily dropped.
And now, some of the fanbase have started calling for the dismissal of manager Unai Emery, and the appointment of no other than Jose Mourinho in his place. A three-time Premier League and two-time Champions League winner, a title winner in Italy and Spain as well, the controversial Portuguese certainly has an impressive CV in his hands.
But is Jose Mourinho really what Arsenal need at the moment? And would he accept an offer to come and take over at the Emirates?
Danny Mills believes so, but under one condition.
Speaking for TalkSPORT, Mills revealed that he can’t see any difference between what Arsenal are doing now and what they were doing in the last few seasons under Arsene Wenger. He also said Mourinho was still one of the best in the trade, but he wasn’t too sure the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss would accept a potential invitation from the Gunners.
The thing is, he would, says Mills, but only if he were guaranteed a huge transfer budget needed to overhaul the squad.
Despite his successes in the past, Mourinho’s teams have often been criticized for playing an uninteresting brand of football. It’s also worth noting that he actually had a huge budget at Real Madrid, at Chelsea and United, and still ended up getting sacked following strings of poor results.
