While Arsenal never really seemed to be in full control of their UEFA Europa League game against Benfica, they definitely had moments in the game where they seemed to be at the races – and Bukayo Saka was at the heart of that. The youngster put in another solid performance, even getting a goal to show for his efforts that helped the Gunners leave Rome with a 1-1 draw.
After the game, Saka spoke with the media and appeared to be in a visibly frustrated mood – which isn’t hard to understand.
On his thoughts on the result:
Frustration. We felt like we had the game in our hands from start to finish, we dominated them and we just needed to put our chances away. We conceded a goal that I didn’t think was a penalty, but that’s all they really created in the whole game. I think we dominated the game and we deserved more.
On what he made of Benfica tonight:
I feel like they set up to defend and try to wait for our mistakes and get us on the counter attack, but I felt like we dealt with it well. We moved the ball quickly and we had opportunities in the first half and second half, so I thought it was a good performance from us.
On Benfica struggling to deal with our pace in attack:
Yeah, 100 per cent. We created a lot of chances so you’re right with that.
On whether this performance will give us confidence for the second leg:
Yeah, 100 per cent. If we play like that again then I feel like we just need to take our chances and we’ll definitely go through to the next round.
