According to the Metro, reported Arsenal target Manchester United’s Eric Bailly is now surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, which means the centre-back could be on the move in the summer.
The Metro reports suggest that the United hierarchy is set to back boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a transfer kitty of around £200million in the summer. With that sort of cash, the Red Devils can afford to bring in a new centre-back with Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld once again linked with a move to the north west.
Bailly out of favour at Old Trafford
Bailly made a decent start to his Manchester United career. However, the 24-year-old has struggled to find top form this season. His form has not been helped by niggling injuries in the last year or so. The Ivory Coast international’s struggle for form has seen him fall behind Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones in the centre-back pecking order at United.
The Red Devils are unlikely to sell the defender on the cheap, with a fee of around £30million mooted for any possible summer move. In today’s modern crazy market, it is not a massive fee for a player who has potential and relatively young in terms of centre-backs.
Arsenal still need a new centre-back
It is no secret that Arsenal needs a new centre-back. Greek international Sokratis has come in and did a decent job. However, Shkodran Mustafi has struggled for form and French star Laurent Koscielny is in the twilight of his career.
Rob Holding was making good progress before he picked up a season-ending Cruciate Ligament injury. The former Bolton star is expected back in training in June. Even with Holding fully fit, the Gunners central defensive options do not seem great for next season, especially if they qualify for the Champions League.
Bailly would be a good signing
For me, at 24, Bailly still has a lot of potential and is still relatively raw. However, he has all the attributes to possibly be a very good centre-back in the near future. He has lost his way at United. Maybe a move and some fresh surrounding could revive his Premier League career.
I certainly would not be disappointed in the Gunners made a move for the Ivory Coast international this summer. He could turn out to be a very good signing for the team from north London.
Would Eric Bailly be a good signing for Arsenal this summer?
