Remembering Hillsborough

Posted on April 15, 2019 by Harry Kettle

Football has had a lot of dark days throughout the course of its history, but April 15th, 1989 was one of the worst. On that day 96 football fan went to a game and never came home again, with today marking the 30th anniversary of the tragedy. In truth, there’s nothing we can really say that you haven’t heard before regarding just how much of an impact this has had on the football world – and Liverpool Football Club – in the last three decades.

Instead, we’re just going to share this poem, and with it, we remember all of those who lost their lives. We will never forget.

“Hope” is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all –
And sweetest – in the Gale – is heard –
And sore must be the storm –
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm –
I’ve heard it in the chillest land –
And on the strangest Sea –
Yet – never – in Extremity,
It asked a crumb – of me.
