Potential signings or false hope?

Posted on July 18, 2019 by Harry Kettle

It seems as if the desire from Arsenal fans to see some movement behind the scenes and in the summer transfer window has led to an increase in speculation on potential transfers. Whether or not these potential deals are legitimate remains to be seen, but the bottom line is this: there is movement, and it’s notable. A number of top players are starting to be linked with Arsenal on a consistent basis, and we just don’t know what to believe.

The next step

It’s easy to just write this off as being speculation and nothing more, but maybe, just maybe, the club have decided to listen to the fans for once. The message that was being sent to AFC was pretty clear: we aren’t happy, and if we don’t see changes, then we can’t commit to the idea of supporting the club through thick and thin this season. In essence, that’s a perfectly reasonable request, but of course, it has still opened the fans up to a great deal of ridicule – as you can probably imagine.

In terms of analysing the evidence, it really does feel like we don’t have enough to go off of yet. It could just be a coincidence that this is all happening at once, or better yet, this could showcase a little bit of desperation from the Gunners after realising just how much work needs to be done. We tend to believe that it’s the latter, and to be honest, there’s nothing wrong with that in our eyes.

Signed, sealed – not delivered?

It’s better to take a shot or two on these stars that have received a lot of buzz, because if you don’t, then you’re just never going to get to a place of any real substance. For the time being, let’s just wait and see how it plays out, but at the same time let’s not dismiss every single rumour – and in equal measure, not believe it immediately.

We aren’t suggesting that we should all anticipate a sea of amazing, high-level signings because that just seems a little bit silly, but what we are saying is that the power of the fans has done some great things in football in the past. Let’s see where it takes us.

Do you believe that Arsenal are going to pull off a successful summer transfer window?
