FC Porto have confirmed that the agreement about the transfer of Fabio Vieira to Arsenal has been reached.
“The club informs the market that it has reached an agreement with Arsenal FC for the signing, on a permanent basis, of Fabio Vieira for the amount of 40 million Euros,” reads the statement of the Portuguese club.
Of that amount, €5m should come later through add-ons.
The transfer is yet to be officially announced by Arsenal, but as reported by Sky Sports, the 22-year-old was in London on Thursday to complete his medical ahead of the proposed move.
Having risen through the ranks of the youth setup at Porto, Vieira became a first-team player in 2020, and since then, he’s made a total of 76 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals and providing 18 assists.
Primarily a central attacking midfielder, he will likely provide some cover and competition for Martin Odegaard, though he can also play on the left side of midfield or as a second striker.
Yet to make a senior appearance for his country, Vieira has played for Portugal at several youth levels, most recently as the captain of the Under-21 side for which he’s scored 13 goals in 20 appearances.
Arsenal reportedly aren’t finished with strengthening the midfield section as they continue to push for Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans, a far more experienced player obviously. The talks with Manchester City about a potential move for Gabriel Jesus are also ongoing, with the Brazilian striker said to be keen to head for the Emirates this summer.
This post will be updated as soon as an official confirmation of the transfer comes from Arsenal.
