Petr Cech admits that he is ready to leave Chelsea

Arsenal’s mooted transfer target Petr Cech has admitted that he is ready to leave Chelsea this summer, after spending this season as back-up to Belgian starlet Thibaut Courtois.

The Czech Republic international told the newspaper Idnes: “I don’t know what the club’s idea will be. It looks like it works well with me and Thibaut as a duo,”

“But that can work for one season only. I don’t want another one like this. There always will be speculation, I leave it for the summer,”

“It will be important to sit down with the club, with the manager, to consider all the pros and cons. We will see what will work out the best.”

Arsenal had been linked with a January move for the Czech Republic international in January, after Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny fell out-of-favour with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger and was replaced as first choice by Colombian international David Ospina.

It seems the 32-year-old could be available this summer, if the Gunners were still interested in buying the Czech star.

Arsenal currently has decent competition for places in the goalkeeper position. Colombian World Cup star David Ospina has done well since replacing Szczesny as first choice keeper and the position would probably not currently be the Gunners boss’ priority at the moment.

Wenger has Ospina and Szczesny, but he also has third choice Argentinian keeper Emiliano Martinez, who is currently on-loan at Championship Rotherham. The 22-year-old looked very confident and capable in his short spell between the posts earlier this season.

Poland international Wojciech Szczesny is regarded as a keeper with lots of potential and at 24-years-old still has a long way to go to reach his prime as a goalkeeper. However, his attitude has been questioned at times.

He has matured into a very good keeper in recent seasons, as was proved last season by the Pole claiming the Premier League Golden Gloves award, ironically jointly with Chelsea’s Cech.

Petr Cech is still a quality goalkeeper and the fact he is second choice at Chelsea is no disgrace considering that Courtois is considered to be one of the best young goalkeepers in the world game at the moment.

The Czech sitting on the Chelsea substitute bench is a major waste of his talent. If he did join the Gunners no doubt he would prove to be a very good signing for the team from north London.

Will Arsenal make a summer move for Petr Cech?
