Former-Arsenal man Paul Merson has labelled the Gunners as ’embarrassing’ after they dropped below Burnley in the Premier League following the side’s 0-0 draw with West Ham in their last game.
It was their second draw in as many games and it has seen Arsenal floundering in the league once again. Their 1-1 draw with Southampton saw the side lose ground on those above them, while their 0-0 draw with struggling West Ham saw pressure pile on Arsene Wenger and the players.
The London side are now in seventh-place in the league with 30 points. While they are only a point behind fourth-placed Tottenham, Liverpool and Burley are also loitering in that same area, meaning competition is rife for the final Champions League spot.
Their current run of form has seen the side winless in their last three games, and Wenger’s men are struggling to regain that same style of play that should have seen them easily beat Manchester United three games ago.
Their latest failing has seen widespread criticism of the side, with Paul Merson clearly unhappy with their performances. Merson told Sky Sports: “Nothing has changed at Arsenal. We are 17 games into the season and they are below Burnley. That is embarrassing. You can understand after five or six games, if someone gets off to a flying start, but this is 17 games in”.
Burnley have been outstanding so far this season, but Merson clearly believes that Arsenal should be well clear of Sean Dyche’s men.
