Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil will miss Sunday afternoon’s Premier League clash with Chelsea through injury, reports the Express. The German international trained away from the squad with six other first-team players on ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash, and still hasn’t recovered in time for the trip to Stamford Bridge.
Arsene Wenger admitted the 28-year-old was a doubt along with midfielder Aaron Ramsey for this weekend’s meeting with the Premier League defending champions, meaning the Gunners boss will be forced into some changes. Without Ramsey in the side, Mohamed Elneny or Francis Coquelin could deputise. Without Ozil for Sunday’s game, Danny Welbeck could replace him.
Alexis Sanchez and Alexandre Lacazette could both start against Chelsea too. Arsenal are 10/3 to win against the Blues, but they face a tough task given they haven’t won at the Bridge in the league since 2011. It will be a big loss losing two important midfielders from the side, but Arsenal can’t have a defeatist attitude.
The London club have lost both away games without scoring in the Premier League this season and can’t suffer a third defeat just five games into the new campaign. Ozil has made four appearances in the top-flight this season, failing to score or make an assist.
