Yannick Carrasco was a target for Arsenal back in January as the club looked to bring in an out-and-out winger, but the deal fell through. Much like the one for Ivan Perišić of Inter Milan. Manager Unai Emery ended up counting on Denis Suarez, on loan from Barcelona, to help fill the void, but the Spaniard simply wasn’t up to the task.
Carrasco has made it known, on more than one occasion, that he would love to return to Europe from China, where he’s been playing for Dalian Yifang since February 2018. Speaking to Sky Sports, he recently revealed that he is still keen on returning from the world’s most populous country, and that there is one club particularly keen on acquiring his services. Given the well-known interest from a few months ago, it’s not unreasonable to assume he was talking about Arsenal.
Chelsea and Real Madrid have reportedly reached an agreement about the transfer of Eden Hazard from Stamford Bridge to the Santiago Bernabeu, Romelu Lukaku of Manchester United is apparently close to joining Inter Milan, and the Gunners will be hoping that the trend of Belgian international forwards changing clubs this summer will continue with Carrasco who has played 31 games for his country, scoring five goals.
However, the matter should not be taken lightly, and if Arsenal are in deed keen on adding the 25-year-old to their ranks, they should move quickly lest another club steps into the fray. It’s worth noting that both Champions League winners Liverpool and Europa League winners (alas) Chelsea are reportedly on the lookout for a wide forward. Chelsea may face a two window transfer ban, or they may yet have it suspended which would make any potential new signing more urgent than ever.
Carrasco is a very good player and would suit any club in need of attacking threat out wide.
