Newcastle United are interested in taking Granit Xhaka on loan in January help him stay in the Premier League if that is his wish, according to The Telegraph.
The now former Arsenal captain has been linked rather heavily with AC Milan recently, with the Rossoneri apparently keen on signing either him or Lucas Torreira. However, it is believed that the Magpies boss Steve Bruce is also interested and is keeping an eye on the situation. Further more, it has been implied to him that there may be a chance for the Swiss international to actually move to the St. James Park.
Xhaka’s situation at the Emirates doesn’t seem to be improving. Since the incident in that fatal Crystal Palace clash, he has offered a public apology, but it didn’t quite give out the feeling that he indeed regretted his actions; it was more of an explanation than a genuine apology. No doubt some things he brought to light in that statements, the levels of abuse he’d been receiving, go a long way to help one understand his frustration, but he has subsequently been stripped of captaincy, and that possibly indicates that there were other issues behind closed doors at the club. Be that as it may, one can’t help wondering at this point if he’ll ever wear the Arsenal shirt again.
Apparently, Xhaka is keen to leave the Emirates in January in search of regular game-time, to make sure he doesn’t miss the European Championship next year. He has been told some good things about Newcastle, both the club and the city, by his international teammate, Newcastle defender Fabian Schar.
Newcastle’s priority this winter will be to sign a centre-back, but they would love Xhaka to come in as well and boost Bruce’s options in the middle of the park. However, they are considering alternative targets too, because they are not the only club interested in him.
