The rumour mill can, and has, taken us down plenty of different directions over the course of the last few years, such is the nature of being associated with Arsenal Football Club. There are always going to be highs and lows when a team like the Gunners are involved, because as a unit, inconsistency seems to follow us around like a bad smell.
The latest rumour that has been thrown out there as of late, and is therefore escalating pretty quickly, is that Arsenal are interested in the possibility of replacing Unai Emery with Jose Mourinho. Yes, we’re talking about the same Jose Mourinho that had a burning rivalry with Arsene Wenger during his time at the Emirates, which spanned across his spells with Manchester United and Chelsea.
Jose always seemed to have something against the Frenchman, but now that the ‘rivalry’ has been put in the past, it appears as if the healing process could be even more radical than we once thought. That’s because Mourinho is, as we’ve already noted, being linked with a move to the Gunners. On the face of it that sounds like one of the most baffling ideas in the history of football, but perhaps it’s exactly what both parties need to drag them out of their respective funks.
Mourinho has been enjoying his punditry work as of late, but it’s pretty clear to see that he’s dying to return to management in some way, shape or form. He would prefer a move back to English football so that he can go after the Premier League title once again, and with that in mind, it seems like the natural next step for him is going to be making his way over to North London – regardless of how fans may feel about that idea.
Avoiding the stereotypes
Unai Emery is on borrowed time at the club and has been for a while now. If he picks up one or two more bad results, then it could quite literally be curtains for him before you know it.
The stars seem to be aligning, but it all depends on how serious Arsenal are about pursuing it. The club needs to understand that the fans aren’t going to sit back and take what’s happening, and you’d have to imagine that Mourinho is the kind of guy they need to inspire some confidence.
