He has not been the most loved person at the Emirates in recent weeks as Arsenal have struggled massively in the league, with Mesut Ozil struggling just as much. The German international has been unable to have any kind of positive impact on his team’s games, with his performances poor to say the least.
Indeed, he was one of the players singled out in their defeat to Watford last weekend, as he missed a one-on-one chance which immediately led to Arsenal conceding, while he vacated an area on the pitch that Watford exploited to score the winning goal. Needless to say, it wasn’t a great day at the office for Ozil.
However, against Everton, when it really counted, he came good. He was superb on the ball as he displayed his technical ability with a number of outstanding passes showcasing his vision. What surprised the fans most was his work ethic, with the German working hard both with and without the ball.
The icing on the cake was his goal, as he displayed his superb athletic ability to outjump Everton’s defenders. Of course, many will question how Everton let Ozil out jump them, but he displayed a certain dynamism and willing against the Toffees in his play throughout the game.
While there have been rumours that his future lies away from Arsenal, the Gunners will be desperate to see their most creative player back to his best, which he was close to in Arsenal’s 5-2 win today.
