Former Anderlecht midfielder Lucas Biglia has snubbed English interest and has instead signed for Serie A side SS Lazio. The Argentine international has signed a five-year deal with the Italian outfit.
‘I’m really happy, everything has been defined. Finally I can stay with my new team-mates. I thank Lazio for signing me and taking me to Italy, and to have given me this opportunity.’
The 27-year old was courted by both Arsenal and Liverpool this summer, but either side failed to make a lasting impression on him.
Last season, Biglia 27 appearances in the Belgium Pro League, scoring four goals. He’s represented Argentina on 10 occasions, and last featured for the national team in June.
He has hopes on making the 2014 World Cup, and feels his chances are greatly improved playing for Lazio.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hasn’t expressed much dismay missing out on the 27-year old midfielder, but it highlights a similar theme this summer for the London side. The search continues for the first big signing and time is fast running out for the Gunners.
For the Football League sides, the season starts in just over a week. Arsenal have a number of targets in mind, but have yet to attain any of them.
