As reported by BBC, Stephan Lichsteiner has officially completed his move to German side Augsburg over in the Bundesliga. The 35 year old veteran had been in search of a new club after leaving Arsenal earlier on in the summer transfer window, making 23 appearances for the club in the process. While he didn’t exactly blow the roof off of the Emirates during his time here, though, we’d say it’s safe to suggest that Gunners fans are wishing him all the best for what lies ahead.
“For me this step is exactly the challenge that I wanted after my trip to England,” he said.
“I have the feeling that I can contribute a lot to this young and hungry team. That and the great atmosphere in the Bundesliga are very exciting for me.”
Augsburg manager Stefan Reuter said: “He has an unbelievable wealth of experience to offer in addition to his sporting qualities in our team will contribute.”
When it comes to Lichtsteiner, it’s really hard not to, at the very least, appreciate him as the legend that we all know him to be. The guy wasn’t the fastest or most creative, but throughout the course of his career he’s always been able to get the job done.
We’d like to wish Stephan the best in his next adventure, because while his time in North London wasn’t perfect, he’s a veteran of the game and those are the kind of folks that we all need to stop and respect.
What’s your favourite memory from Stephan’s time at the Emirates?
