Arsenal have recently been credited with interest in RB Salzurg’s Dominik Szoboszlai, as the midfielder continues to spark admiration around Europe with glittering performances both at club and international level. The links have grown much stronger since David Ornstein of The Athletic revealed he had been informed that the interest is genuine.
However, with all the attention the 20-year-old Hungarian has been getting lately, bringing him to the Emirates was never going to be an easy task. Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping an eye on the situation, it has been reported, as are Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City and AC Milan. And now, according to Football Insider, RB Leipzig are about to enter the race as well.
Apparently, the Bundesliga side intend to sign Szoboszlai in January and then send him back to Salzburg on loan for the rest of the season. The relationship between Leipzig and Salzburg is, naturally, a great one, with both clubs being a part of the Red Bull group.
The report states that Arsenal made multiple efforts to sign Szoboszlai already and made contact with his representatives in the recent transfer windows.
Szoboszlai generally plays on the left side of midfield, but can be deployed as a winger as well. He is a highly dynamic, creative player who likes to take the ball forward and try and make something happen. He has a fantastic eye for a pass and packs a terrific shot from range. He has been directly involved in 14 goals (scored five, assisted nine) in as many appearances for Salzburg this season, but his agent has reportedly revealed recently that the time of his departure from the Austrian club is approaching.
He also became his nation’s hero recently by scoring a fantastic last-gasp winner against Iceland which saw Hungary qualify for next year’s European Championship.
