Kanu claims Arsenal made mistake with Iwobi

Posted on September 10, 2019 by Harry Kettle

There are many legends that have been and gone over the years at Arsenal Football Club, but one cult favourite that always seemed to stick in the mind and heart of most fans is Nwankwo Kanu. The Nigerian forward had some great moments and some not so great moments in an Arsenal shirt, but for the most part, he was a stalwart.

Unfortunately, in the piece that we’re about to touch on, Kanu allowed his emotions to get the better of him by once again deciding to use his influence to voice his opinion. That’s all well and good, but when there’s a degree of bias in your opinion, it kind of renders it a little bit pointless.

The proof is in the pudding with the following quotes, which pretty much confirm that he believes Alex Iwobi leaving Arsenal for Everton was a mistake on Unai Emery’s part. In our mind, that couldn’t be any further from the truth, but we’ll give the quotes some time to breathe and let you form your own opinion.

“I would say they made a mistake, 100 per cent,” Kanu told Goal. “Why they let him go, I don’t know.

“He’s a boy who, in and out, is Arsenal. He always wanted to do his best for the club. He loves the club, but not only that he can play football.

“What he brings week in, week out, the fans need to appreciate that.

“I think he is still young and those are the type of people you want in the team, people who grew up here, who knows everything about the club and wants to die for the club.

“He was one of them, so for us to lose him and to let him go, was a shock. I couldn’t really believe we did it, but that’s football.”

We can appreciate what he’s trying to do and say, but Kanu is off base here in our opinion. It’s all well and good saying that he’s passionate and has a lot of heart and all of that, but he just wasn’t good enough to feature for the club at the highest level on a consistent basis. In the future he may return once he’s got a few more years with Everton under his belt, but if we were Kanu, we wouldn’t be holding our breath for that happening.

Do you agree with Arsenal legend Kanu?
