Cedric Soares arrived to Arsenal on an initial loan on the last day of January, but injuries and the Covid-19 outbreak prevented him from making his debut for the club for five months.
His chance finally came as he stepped onto the pitch to play the last 13 minutes against Norwich City, and he was an instant hit, adding the fourth goal in a 4-0 triumph. He has been looking very good since, providing a welcome alternative to Hector Bellerin on the right flank.
Speaking exclusively to Nick Wright of Sky Sports, the 28-year-old fullback said that the five months he spent at the club without making a single appearance was a tough period. There were fears among the fanbase, as well as the media, that his loan would prove an unsuccessful one and that he would be released at the end of June when the deal expired. However, it was always the club’s plan to make the deal permanent and they never had any doubt that he would come good, and he put his name on the dotted line below a four-year contract on June 23rd.
Cedric also reflected on the crushing defeat the Gunners suffered in the North-London Derby on Sunday. The former Southampton defender said there wasn’t much to say after a game like that. He believes the team did their best and the outcome was tough for them to take.
He spoke about the upcoming clash with Liverpool, and said that the fact that the Merseysiders are now Premier League champions means that they have a lot of quality, but he relishes the challenge of facing them. Jurgen Klopp’s team have suffered only two defeats all season, but it still proves that they can be beaten, and Arsenal intend to try.
The Gunners can be backed at 3/1 to beat the newly crowned champions.
