Arsenal made some excellent acquisitions in the transfer market this summer, most notably defensive midfielder Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid and centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille OSC. However, manager Mikel Arteta obviously wanted an attacking midfielder brought in as well, but the club reportedly failed to reach an agreement with Olympique Lyon for Houssem Aouar and the boss’s wish remains to be hopefully fulfilled in one of the next two windows.
Latest reports claim Real Madrid would consider a suitable offer for Isco Alarcon, and the Spaniard has been heavily linked with Everton, currently under the command of former Real boss Carlo Ancelotti. Isco is contracted to Real until the summer of 2022 and a sum of €20 million is being mentioned as Los Blancos seek to raise some funds, but the Mirror have relayed reports that the Spanish giants are actually waiting to see if Arsenal would be willing to make a bid before they enter into any serious business on that front. Meanwhile, Isco has started only three La Liga games this season so far and hasn’t played in the Champions League at all.
The Gunners have also been linked with Inter Milan’s Christian Eriksen – definitely a strange one given the Denmark international’s long stint with arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Apparently, Eriksen is unhappy with not being given enough game-time with the Nerazzurri, despite his fine form at international level.
However, it seems that neither Isco nor Eriksen are a priority for Arsenal at the moment. The club and the manager would rather return to the table with Lyon to make a fresh attempt at signing Aouar. Apart from the 22-year-old, RB Salzburg’s Dominik Szoboszlai, is also being monitored closely. His agent recently revealed that the 20-year-old Hungary international was edging closer to leaving the Austrian side.
