Even if the middle of a pretty embarrassing defeat, there’s always time to take a step back and analyse the positives – or, at least, that’s what some folks would like you to believe. In reality it takes a few days to really reflect and think about what has happened, especially when you play at a level like the Premier League. Case in point: Arsenal fans would’ve understandably been incredibly unhappy about the manner in which they lost to Leicester City at the weekend, but in the end, there were a few positives to take away from the result.
An intriguing prospect
One of the positives is that they’re going to get the chance to battle their way back into the top four during the final two games of the season, which initially seemed like it wouldn’t even remotely be possible. The failures of Chelsea and Manchester United have left the door wide open for one of those three teams to seize the opportunity, but we’re going to talk more about that later on.
Beyond that you may not have expected us to have another positive to talk about, but we do: Youri Tielemans. For those of you who don’t know, the 21 year old Belgian is currently on loan with the Foxes and has been since earlier on this year. The Belgium international, who made his debut for the national team back in 2016, has been an absolute revelation since joining Leicester from Monaco – which has caused many fans to sit up and take notice of him.
Is it viable?
That includes Gunners supporters, even after Tielemans put them to the sword at the weekend. Youri is one of those players that seems to pop up ‘out of nowhere’ and prove to the world what he’s capable of, when in reality, he’s been doing so throughout the entirety of his career.
This feels and seems like a ‘Cristiano Ronaldo Sporting Lisbon/Manchester United’ type of situation, and to be honest, we kind of hope things turn out that way. Tielemans to Arsenal may not be all too likely given how many other high quality European sides are going to go after him, but why not throw your name into the hat? The Gunners have the resources necessary to make a move like this seem feasible, so they may as well give it a shot.
Do you think Arsenal should attempt to sign Youri Tielemans this summer?
