The summer transfer window is set to close much earlier than usual this year, with tomorrow being the new Deadline Day just twenty-four hours before the Premier League actually kicks off. A parade of teams will be hoping to get some last minute deals done in order to bolster their squad and one such team is Arsenal.
The Gunners have already brought in a series of high-profile names throughout the summer in an attempt to improve their chances of finishing in the top four, but is it enough? The answer is probably yes given the depth they have in their squad, but when you’re linked with a name like Ousmane Dembele, it’s hard to pass up that kind of opportunity to try and sign him.
The 21-year-old hasn’t quite been able to make the desired impact that he intended to make at the Nou Camp with Barcelona, and as a result, there’s a very realistic chance that he’ll be playing his football elsewhere at the start of next season. One possibility is bringing him to the Emirates, although given the timescale involved, it’s almost definitely going to come down to the wire.
Arsenal would need to move extremely quickly in order to get the green light for this deal before the deadline, especially given that these kinds of moves usually take weeks if not months to prepare for. Still, many fans will think that Dembele isn’t even worth the figures that are being thrown around for him, but given how diverse he is in his style of play, he could be a fantastic attacking option alongside Aubameyang and Lacazette.
La Liga just doesn’t seem to offer the right kind of tempo for him, and that’s okay. Not everyone is going to put on a masterclass week in and week out over there, and the nitty-gritty style of the Premier League could suit him a little better. He’d likely be positioned in a similar way to Thierry Henry who also arrived as a youngster, and if he’s able to be half as effective in front of goal as Henry was, then Arsenal could be on to something special.
As we said, though, Unai Emery would likely have to pull all sorts of tricks out of the bag in order for this to be a feasible move.
Will Arsenal sign Ousmane Dembele?
