We’ve all heard about the endless rumblings when it comes to who is going where, and a lot of us are sick of it already. Of course, that doesn’t make it any less important, because the January transfer window has the potential to completely change the dynamic of the entire Premier League campaign. As a result we have to take rumours seriously to a certain extent, with the latest one that is doing the rounds being the potential sale of Hector Herrera to Arsenal Football Club.
Making moves – kind of
It’s no secret that Arsenal are going to be on the lookout for an Aaron Ramsey replacement sooner rather than later, and Hector Herrera could fit the bill perfectly. The 28 year old, who has been with Porto since back in 2013, is certainly an intriguing prospect, although some would argue that he hasn’t yet been able to prove himself in one of the top European leagues.
While we can understand the logic behind that you never really know until you try, with the report suggesting that Herrera will be out of contract at the end of the current season.
Establishing a plan
That may actually suit Arsenal quite well, given that Unai Emery announced they’ll only be looking to do loan deals until the summer – meaning that they could wait it out. Of course there’s always the risk of someone else coming in for him, and there’s also the lingering possibility that Emery could be bluffing. Whatever the case may be, though, it feels like a decision needs to be made sooner rather than later.
Herrera may not jump off the page as an immediately suitable replacement but there’s a reason why he’s been such a prominent force for both Porto and the Mexican national team. He has a lot of potential even in his late 20s, and this is the kind of deal that intrigues us.
