According to the Times, Italian club Internazionale are in pole position to sign Bordeaux’s Brazilian starlet Malcom. Inter have reportedly offered an initial fee of around £8.8million to sign the youngster on loan before the deal becomes permanent next summer for a fee of £26.5million.
Malcom had reportedly previously been a transfer target for Arsenal. However, that was during Arsene Wenger’s reign as Gunners boss.
Malcom a talented youngster
Last summer and in January, there were persistent rumours that Arsenal were on the verge of signing the youngster. One of the biggest reasons for the reports was the potential of the youngster.
Last season he continued to develop his game, scoring 12 goals and producing seven assists in Ligue One. His performances have apparently not gone unnoticed, as Arsenal’s bitter rivals Tottenham are also supposedly in the hunt for the forward.
No doubt the youngster has talent and heaps of potential. His price is not unrealistic in today’s transfer market either. However, Arsenal have a limited budget this summer, which may be a factor in not renewing any reported interest.
Arsenal well stocked in forward areas
When you look at the Arsenal squad, the forward areas of the team are one of strongest areas. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette are the first-choice forward options, while Danny Welbeck provides sufficient backup. Lucas Perez could even be an option for boss Unai Emery if he stays with the club this summer. In the attacking midfield roles, you have the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and Alex Iwobi.
It is fair to say there the Gunners have decent options in the roles that Malcom would likely occupy if he did join the north London club. Maybe it was deemed that another forward player was not needed or perhaps he was never really a transfer target.
Will there be further signings?
The Gunners have been relatively active in the transfer market this summer strengthening the weak positions in their team. It will be highly interesting to see if Arsenal makes any more signings.
The reported summer transfer budget of £50million already looks to have been on new signings. If the Gunners do sell any of their fringe players, they are not likely to bring mega money into the club.
Arsenal will continue to be linked with players until the transfer window shuts and probably beyond. However, only time will tell if they make any more summer signings.
Should Arsenal make a move for Malcom?
