German international Mesut Ozil will put pen to paper on a new contract with Arsenal in the coming days after agreeing terms with the Gunners, according to reports in German media outlet Bild.
Ozil was expected to follow Alexis Sanchez on his way out of the Emirates Stadium this month but is said to have been impressed with the club’s reaction and is determined to remain at the club to ‘link up with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’.
Gabon international striker and wantaway Borussia Dortmund hot-shot is already in London to wrap up his £55 million move from the Bundesliga side and the ambition Arsenal displayed by grabbing a world-class striker this January is said to have convinced Mesut Ozil to remain in London.
The 29-year-old World Cup-winning playmaker has widely been expected to leave with Manchester United believed to be vying for his services, but the arrival of Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a swap deal with Red Devils and imminent signing of Aubameyang persuaded Ozil to remain a Gunner.
Ozil’s current deal with Arsenal is due to expire at the end June 2018 but he is expected to commit himself to a new contract that will see him remain at the Emirates beyond 2021.
Mesut Ozil joined Arsenal back in 2013 for a then club record transfer fee worth £42.5 million.
With Aubameyang now set to sign for Arsenal, Olivier Giroud is closing on his deadline day move to Chelsea whereas Michy Bathuayi will complete a transfer triangle with his move to Dortmund to replace the Gabon international.
Arsenal have already agreed an £18 million fee for Olivier Giroud who played his final game for Arsenal last night in a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Swansea.
All in all, it is fair to say that Arsenal have done a brilliant job during winter despite losing one of their key players Alexis Sanchez.
