How much will Auba take?

Posted on October 05, 2019 by Harry Kettle

Arsenal will return to action this weekend as they prepare to host Bournemouth in the Premier League at the Emirates. They’re coming off the back of a comprehensive win against Standard Liege in the Europa League earlier this week, with many fans and pundits believing that if Unai Emery can resolve his tactical and defensive issues, they’ll be able to go on a little bit of a run in all competitions.

Maintaining the hype

Alas, one of the glaring issues that appear to be facing the club is their reliance on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. It shouldn’t be viewed as a bad thing if one of the club’s star players is living up to his potential, but when few other ‘star players’ are chipping in alongside him, that can only be viewed as a problem.

The 30 year old has been with the club since back in 2018, and we’ve lost count of the number of times that he’s been able to dig Arsenal out of any given hole they may be in. It’s gotten to the point where it feels like a lot of fans just expect themselves to rely on him, as opposed to using other means – or other players – to help them out.

One man band

Auba himself, as we know, has had his fair share of issues to deal with over the course of the last few weeks, after firing back at former club Borussia Dortmund for some of the comments that were made regarding his departure. We can’t exactly blame the guy for speaking his mind and we actually quite like the fact that he did, because it shows us a different side of him. Sure, using Twitter for that kind of thing is always going to open you up to some criticism, but many would argue that’s the entire reason to have the platform in the first place.

Lacazette returning is going to do wonders for the confidence of the team, but we need to see a bit of cohesion and confidence throughout the entire squad if they’re going to be top four contenders this season. There’s a lot of potential in this side and that’s especially true if they can bring in reinforcements in January, but living up to that is a whole other conversation.

How long will Aubameyang be at Arsenal?
