Holding praises Martinelli

Posted on October 24, 2019 by Harry Kettle

There are plenty of youngsters out there trying to make a name for themselves within the general landscape of English football, and one kid who seems to be doing a pretty good job of it so far is Gabriel Martinelli. At the age of just 18 he already seems to be on the path to great things within the club’s setup, and at this stage, he certainly has some good company around him.

As seen on Arsenal.com, Rob Holding recently took the time to discuss Martinelli’s rise up through the ranks and what the future could hold for him.

“He’s come in and settled really well,” the defender said. “In training every day, he works hard. He puts you under pressure constantly and never stops running, which as a centre half is a nightmare. You want a striker that will sort of give up on you, but he never gives up.

“His finishing has been unbelievable, even with his head. He’s only a small guy but the headed goals he’s scored in the Forest game and the Standard Liege game have been incredible goals, to be fair to him.

“I think he’s really close with Emi Martinez,” he added. “He spends a lot of time with him and I think he’s translating for him as he picks up English.

“In yoga, he is trying to learn as much English as he can. It’s only a small group of five or six of us, so he’s learning English as he goes along and he’s making an effort, which is important.”

While there are going to be points where it isn’t going to feel great to be an Arsenal fan this season, taking a minute to think about what the future could hold is going to be really important for the fans. The likes of Martinelli are helping to lead a whole new generation, and while he could easily get snapped up by a bigger club somewhere down the road, we need to appreciate the fact that his development is going well at the Emirates.

Can Martinelli become a major star with the Gunners?
