Arsenal fans must be getting tired of the rumours linking them with a big-name signing, only to be let down at the last minute. However, it appears this summer’s protracted transfer of Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain potentially moving to the Premier League side has hit a stumbling block.
Madrid are reportedly holding out for more money – said to be around £40M. A fee Arsenal will in no terms pay for the Argentine international. They were apparently told the same from Liverpool after the Gunners had a £25M bid rejected for Luis Suarez.
Many question why Arsenal currently even need a striker with Theo Walcott (21 goals), Lukas Podolski (16 goals), and Olivier Giroud (17 goals).
The club want a title challenge this season, but are they really willing to break their entire philosophy to end the ongoing trophy drought?
Gonzalo Higuain’s father, Jorge, has said the club have agreed personal terms, but are now negotiating the transfer fee. The Madrid striker was reported to be flying to London to wrap the deal up only a week ago, but now it seems the deal is back to square one again.
Arsenal look unlikely of paying the £40M asking price, and could well turn their attentions elsewhere.
