According to the Express, Arsenal are the favourites to sign Lyon’s promising young French midfielder Houssem Aouar. The youngster is regarded as one of the brightest young stars in the European game.
The Gunners have made a promising start to life under Spanish boss Unai Emery. However, the former Valencia boss s reportedly looking to strengthen his squad in the winter transfer window and Aouar is reported to be his prime target.
Could spend money in January after a low spending summer
Emery spent a relatively small amount of money in the summer, as the club looked to strengthen their squad with bargains. According to the Express, though, Arsenal hierarchy are prepared to back the Spaniard in the transfer market in January.
The Gunners boss has already shown he has the managerial acumen to move the team forward. Any quality additions to the squad in January will surely only help the team from north London achieve their objective of a top-four finish this season.
Aouar a rising star
A number of clubs have monitored Aouar’s development in the past. Reportedly, the midfielder turned down a move to Liverpool two years ago after boss Bruno Genesio and his family advised him against the switch. Dortmund have also been linked with a move for the young midfielder.
The 20-year-old broke into the Ligue One’s first team in 2017 and he has become a regular this season making 21 appearances for OL. His impressive displays have seen Lyon put a £35million price tag on his head.
However, apparently, his price tag is unlikely to put off the potential bidders for his services in January and the summer transfer windows.
A good replacement for Aaron Ramsey
Although both players play in different styles, Aouar could be seen as a good replacement for the outgoing Aaron Ramsey. The Welsh midfielder has blown hot and cold throughout his Arsenal career.
Aouar has far more scope for improvement than Ramsey and may well prove to be a far more consistent performer in the future than the former-Cardiff star. For me, Aouar would be a shrewd signing. He is a player who has already shown flashes of his ability and has so much potential to get better in the future.
We will have to wait and see if this story has any legs to it. Aouar certainly would be an interesting signing if the Gunners could pull it off.
Is Houssem Aouar a genuine Arsenal transfer target for January?
