According to the Standard, all six of last season’s Premier League top-six are monitoring the situation of Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser. The Scottish international’s contract expires in the summer of 2020 and noises coming out of the stars camp suggest that he wants to move on.
Arsenal have of course been heavily linked with a move for Fraser, who the Cherries rated in the £30million-bracket.
Competition for Fraser
The notion of all the top-six being interested in signing Fraser is a strange one. The winger enjoyed an impressive campaign for Bournemouth, scoring seven goals and producing 14 assists in the Premier League.
It seems unlikely that Fraser is wanted by champions Manchester City, while the report claims that Liverpool would prepare to wait until next summer to snap the Scot up on a free transfer.
Chelsea are currently in the midst of a transfer ban, so would be unable to sign the winger. Manchester United look set to complete the signing of young Welsh star Daniel James in the near future, so that may put them out of the running for Fraser this summer.
That leaves just Arsenal and of course arch-rivals Tottenham as the only top-six destinations that seem viable for Fraser this summer.
The fee may prove a problem
If Bournemouth are demanding a fee of around £30million, then it may prove a problem for the Gunners, who have a number of positions in need of strengthening. That means if Arsenal signed Fraser for the mooted fee, the Gunners would have just £20million left to spend elsewhere.
Winning the Europa League would obviously give the club from north London extra transfer funds to spend in the summer transfer window.
Fraser may be a good addition
In today’s transfer market, £30million is no longer a big fee. The transfer market has gone crazy in recent years. Considering his age and how Fraser has performed this season, I do believe he could be a good summer addition.
This season has been his first of regularly first-team football and he has shown just what he can do. With teammates of a better standard, maybe he could push on further in the Premier League.
While names linked with Arsenal seem to have come and gone, Fraser is one that is consistently linked with the Gunners. Whether he will be playing his trade at Arsenal next season only time will tell. I for one would be disappointed if he does join the Gunners.
Is Ryan Fraser worth £30million?
