Gabriel Martinelli is on course to sign a new contract with Arsenal, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Apparently, the talks on the subject have been going on for weeks and the Brazilian winger has no other thought than remaining at the Emirates for the foreseeable future.
This is obviously great news for Arsenal. Martinelli has been fantastic so far this season, playing a major role in the team’s fight to stay at the top of the Premier League table and crowning his sublime form with a goal and an assist in the huge win over Liverpool on Sunday. Since the start of the term, he’s scored four goals and assisted twice in 11 matches in all competitions, and he’s been a nightmare to defend against coming from the left attacking flank.
The quality of the 21-year-old winger, now clear for everyone to see, has surely earned him a number of admirers among top clubs across England and the rest of Europe. Therefore, his determination to stay put and achieve success with Mikel Arteta’s side is extremely significant – a player like that would obviously be very difficult to replace.
Romano says the talks are still ongoing over a new contract for Bukayo Saka, who was twice on target against Liverpool on Sunday and was also involved in Martinelli’s first-minute opener. Saka’s numbers are similar to those of his colleague on the other flank – three goals and four assists in 11 matches in all competitions so far this term, and he’s obviously just as important for Arsenal’s hopes of finally declaring a season successful next May.
As things stand at the moment, the contracts of both Martinelli and Saka have just under two years left to run, and the club’s desire to tie them down with fresh long-term deals, presumably more lucrative than before to reflect their rise, is quite understandable.
