All England fans watched in horror on Sunday night as yet another penalty shootout heartbreak cost the Three Lions their chance at winning Euro 2020. It was a familiar tale of disappointment and yet, the overriding feeling of pride for the squad is something that we don’t think will ever go away.
Arsenal supporters have had to endure a similar feeling of “so close, yet so far” for quite some time now and this season, we’re pretty sure that isn’t going to fly as Mikel Arteta knows the stakes involved with another big failure.
There’s no European distraction for this Gunners team this time around and if they can’t break their way into the top four or even top six, there are going to be big problems. They have to start putting the right pieces in place because with just their domestic campaign to focus on, there are no other excuses as to why they aren’t succeeding.
This squad needs to understand that without the Europa League they have the freedom to rest up and really focus on the task at hand: thriving in the league. That’s going to be easier said than done but if Arteta wants to be known as an elite level manager, he needs to see this task through to the end.
As for England, there’s always next year.
