Arsenal have been heavily linked with Brighton and Hove Albion’s Ben White for a long time now, and even though several other clubs had been credited with interest in the 23-year-old defender, there were no approaches from anyone but Arsenal.
That seems to have changed now, with the Daily Mail reporting that Everton have been registered as late entrants in the race. Apparently, the Merseyside Blues, having completed the controversial appointment of former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, have held talks with the Seagulls about the possibility of signing White themselves. Further more, Everton are allegedly willing to offer more money than Arsenal have for his services. Manchester City have lately been mentioned as well, with the future of Aymeric Laporte reportedly uncertain due to the Spain international falling behind John Stones and Ruben Dias in the pecking order under Pep Guardiola, and their financial power is obviously second to none in the Premier League.
However, football.london are reporting that there’s no real reason for Arsenal fans to worry. The deal which should see White move to the Emirates is practically done, and it’s expected to be wrapped up quickly when the ongoing European Championship, or England’s involvement in the tournament to be more precise, ends. England boss Gareth Southgate spoke about that particular issue not too long ago.
“We are not going to stop phones ringing and cannot control conversations going on in private,” he said. “But I think most deals are done at the end of tournaments or in the first week after the end of the season, I would expect any deals to be done after the tournament.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu timely took the impact of the Euros on the club’s transfer activities and pre-season on-board, and are planning for the summer accordingly.
