Everton join Olivier Giroud race

Posted on July 03, 2017 by Milos Markovic

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is sending a clear message to the French forward Olivier Giroud with the imminent arrival of Alexandre Lacazette.

The 30-year-old striker who struggled to break into the starting line-up towards the end of last season with Gunners is nearing the end of the road at the Emirates. Having seen his credentials being regularly put to the test, Giroud looks set to pack his bags and move elsewhere during the summer transfer window.

The experienced frontman will have no shortage of suitors and the list of potential new destinations for the Arsenal man is getting longer every day.

West Ham and Marseille are both believed to be hot on the trail of Olivier Giroud, but the latest reports from the Mirror suggest that Everton have also joined the race for the 30-year-old striker.

The Toffees have been proactive during the summer transfer window having already reinforced their ranks with a couple of quality signings but Ronald Koeman is thought to be also preparing for a potential departure of first-team star Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian striker has been constantly linked with a move away from the Goodison and the most recent speculation is suggesting former Chelsea man could be well on his way out of the club.

Therefore, Koeman has identified Giroud as the ideal replacement for Lukaku. With considerable Premier League experience under his belt, Olivier Giroud would be a valuable signing for Everton. There is no doubt that the Frenchman would raise the profile of Koeman’s side significantly and would also be given a healthy opportunity to prove Arsene Wenger wrong.

As for their own part, Arsenal have shifted their entire focus to Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette who has been constantly linked with Gunners for the past couple of transfer windows.

The prolific scorer has announced his desire to leave Lyon at the end of last season and it was only the matter of where he would continue his career. Arsenal are thought to have wrapped up a £44 million move and the Lyon striker is expected to arrive in London in the forthcoming days to seal his move to the Emirates.
