Arsenal manager Unai Emery has focused the majority of his attention on business in the first few weeks of his time as the new boss. That makes sense given that the club needed a complete overhaul from a transfer point of view, and we’re happy to see that he’s provided them with that. However, while that’s all well and good, we were pleased to see that he took time out of his schedule yesterday to attend a fan day that was set up at Emirates Stadium.
Emery took part in the Supporters’ Event, as the excitement continues to build for the new campaign. Obviously, the majority of people in the world of football are focusing on the World Cup right now, but as we move into the latter stages of that tournament, you can sense that the tides are beginning to turn.
While the negative nancies out there will choose to think that he only showed up as a requirement, we’re choosing to believe that he genuinely wanted to learn more about this wonderful club that he’s now in charge of. We aren’t suggesting he’ll be taking on the caretaker duties or anything like that, but it’s nice to see that there’s a warmer side to the man who has been fantastically ruthless in the transfer window thus far.
It’s vital to have that balance because if you’re too serious, you could end up with a manager that has no kind of relationship with the fanbase whatsoever. If you’re too laid back, then you could have an Alan Pardew or Tim Sherwood fiasco on your hands – and trust us when we say that nobody wants that.
Emery’s track record on the pitch as a manager is great, but the thing that excites us most is his commitment to the job. He isn’t here to be a flash in the pan kind of gaffer, because he wants to be here for years and years to come. Whether or not he can find stability in the position remains to be seen, but we can only go off of what we’ve been told and what’s supposedly in the pipeline. We don’t want to get too carried away because we’ve suffered from that before, but prior to the season actually getting underway, let’s just enjoy the stress-free side of the Spaniard’s maiden voyage.
Are you excited for what’s to come with Mr Unai Emery?
