Arsenal recorded a 2-1 win over a resilient Cardiff City side at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday. Star striker Pierre Aubameyang was involved in both of the Gunners goals, scoring and also producing an assist. The Gabon international had previously been prolific with former club Dortmund and he has picked up from where he left off in the Premier League.
Involved in 21 goals this season
Aubameyang has been involved in 21 goals in the English top-flight this season, scoring 15 goals and producing assists. He has 18 goals in all competitions for the Gunners, so it is far too say he has enjoyed a productive campaign this season.
What is even crazier is the fact that the striker could have had a far more healthy record if it was not for the chances he has missed. However, the important thing is he gets into the positions to miss the chances.
Aubameyang is the sort of top striker that the Gunners needed under Arsene Wenger when Olivier Giroud was deemed good enough to lead the attack on a regular basis. The 29-year-old is proving such a vital part of the Gunners team and his goals may just fire Unai Emery’s side into the top four this season.
One of the favourites for the Golden Boot
Aubameyang is one of the favourites to win the Premier League golden boot at odds of 11/4. Only last season’s winner Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is shorter odds than the Gabon star to claim the individual award.
The Egyptian has currently only scored one more top-flight goal this season. However, he will be confident of adding to his goal tally when the Merseysiders host Leicester at Anfield this evening.
Why didn’t Arsenal sign him sooner?
Aubameyang’s signing from Dortmund last January seems to have been a no-brainer. The question is why the Gunners did not sign him sooner. The striker had long been linked with a move to north London, but it was not until the arrival of Sven Mislintat as head of recruitment the striker finally joined the Arsenal.
It is great to have the striker at the club and hopefully he can continue to score the goals that will hopefully fire Arsenal into the Champions League. Aubameyang has proven to be one of the best goalscorers in the top-flight in his year at the club.
Is Pierre- Emerick Aubameyang the best out-and-out striker in the Premier League?
