Former-Chelsea star Dennis Wise does not think that Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez will be interested in joining Arsenal despite rumours that the player may be one of the Gunners preferred choices to replace Alexis Sanchez, who is apparently wanted by fellow Premier League side Manchester City.
Arsenal were able to claim a positive draw with Chelsea in the first-leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea. The 0-0 scoreline at Stamford Bridge means that Arsenal will be looking to utilise home advantage in the second-leg, with a silverware potentially just 180 minutes away.
Chelsea did have the better of the chances in the game, but they were in truth very flat, with the game largely disappointing in comparison to the thrilling 2-2 draw the two sides played out in the Premier League in their last contest.
There was a lot of talk before the game as Alexis Sanchez was benched in favour of Alex Iwobi, with speculation surrounding the Chilean rife. With his contract up in the summer, it is widely expected that Arsenal will try to sell him in January to generate funds for a replacement, with Riyad Mahrez reportedly on the list of potential targets.
However, former-Chelsea player Dennis Wise has claimed that Mahrez would not be interested in signing for Arsenal. He told Sky Sports: “I don’t think Mahrez would want to go there”.
“I think there would be other teams that Mahrez would look at and think he’s capable of going into, teams that are in a better position than Arsenal”.
Arsenal’s sale of Sanchez will reportedly not happen unless the Gunners can line up a suitable replacement for the player, but Wise thinks this will not be Mahrez.
