According to TalkSPORT, Arsenal could rival Liverpool for Barcelona’s highly-rated forward Ousmane Dembele. The Catalan giants are reportedly ready to sell the forward for a fee in the region of £85million.
Struggled at Barcelona
Dembele is regarded as one of the best up and coming young players in the world game. The 21-year-old only joined Barcelona in the summer of 2017 from Dortmund in a deal that could potentially rise to a fee of an eye-watering 130million euros.
It seems the step up to one of the biggest clubs in the world has been a hard one for the youngster. He has struggled to break into the team on a regular basis and also suffered a nasty injury last season that kept him sidelined for a lengthy period.
Unfortunately, for Dembele, there seems to have been constant stories coming out of Barcelona about a poor attitude and turning up for training late. There was even an unconfirmed suggestion that the forward is addicted to computer games and it is affecting his chances of being successful at the Nou Camp.
Could be a good signing if correctly managed
From the inside looking in, Dembele could well thrive with the right boss to take care of him. Questions have been asked about Arsenal boss Unai Emery’s man-management skills in the past.
However, many former players talk about the Spanish boss in glowing terms, including Brazil international superstar Neymar, who has recently been praising Emery and stating that he will be a success in north London. Emery is reportedly a very strict boss, which is maybe what Dembele needs. If his attitude is poor, then maybe he needs a more disciplined boss to get the best out of him. The Spaniard may just be that boss.
Arsenal will not pay the fee
I highly doubt that Dembele will be sporting an Arsenal shirt in the near future. The main reason for my doubts over the move would be that the Gunners hierarchy would not sanction such a big money signing.
The club had a reported transfer budget of just £50million in the summer, so they are unlikely to sanction a move for one player for that sort of sum. If the Gunners did make a move, then it would be some signal of intent. Unfortunately, it looks highly unlikely to happen. Until Dembele makes a move elsewhere, he will consistently be linked with a move to Arsenal.
