Deals for Ceballos and Saliba “close”

Posted on July 17, 2019 by Veselin Trajkovic

As reported by Sky Sports, Arsenal are close to agreeing a deal with Real Madrid to sign Dani Ceballos on loan.

Arsenal’s fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur have expressed an interest in taking the young midfielder to north London on a permanent basis, but apparently, a temporary move to Arsenal suits both Real and the player better. Los Blancos are keen on keeping the prospect of Ceballos playing for them again in the future alive following his excellent displays at the U-21 European Championship this year, while Ceballos feels he would have more first-team opportunities at the Emirates than at Spurs, and he also feels he may yet have a future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

A temporary switch suits Arsenal at this particular moment as well, as it would allow them to utilize their limited funds to acquire players in other positions. There is however, one condition that still needs to be fulfilled if the move is to happen – the approval of Real head coach Zinedine Zidane.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports also say that their sources have informed them that the Gunners are also closing in on a deal to sign William Saliba of Saint-Etienne.

The fee believed to be in the frame for the young defender would amount to £27 million and he would be loaned back to the Ligue 1 side for a season straight away, but this is where Arsenal’s neighbors come into the story again. Spurs have apparently expressed an interest in Saliba too, but they are yet to make a concrete offer for his services.

Saint-Etienne are apparently waiting to see how much Spurs would offer before making a decision, with the aim of driving the price for the player as high as possible. But like Ceballos, Saliba would prefer to join Arsenal at the moment.

Sky Sports believe that the nature of the proposed deals for these two players would allow the Gunners to continue their pursuits of other targets, namely Wilfried Zaha of Crystal Palace and Kieran Tierney of Celtic.
