Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been in superb form of late for the Gunners. In fact, since his move from Dortmund in the January transfer window, he has impressed in front of goal.
The Gabon striker’s form has attracted the interest of many people, including Fantasy Football enthusiasts, such as myself. With a home game against Huddersfield this afternoon, the striker looks to be set to record a big haul.
Could Aubameyang be rested against Huddersfield?
We are heading into a busy period of the Premier League campaign when top-flight bosses look to rest and rotate their squads. French forward Alexandre Lacazette has started the last two games on the bench.
However, he has come off the bench and made a big impact in both games, so Arsenal boss Unai Emery has a difficult decision to make for his starting line-up against the Terriers.
The logical decision may be to play both, which means playing two up front or with Aubameyang playing on the wing. Emery stated earlier this season that he did not see the pair playing together as a strike partnership. However, the way the pair have been playing of late, the Spaniard may need to reconsider his earlier stance.
Lacazette a straightforward replacement for Aubameyang
Looking at it logically, I would understand if Emery decided to bench Aubameyang against the Terriers, despite wanting the forward pair to start the game later today. His logical replacement would be Lacazette, which would give Aubameyang a rest.
As an owner of Aubameyang in FPL and somebody who loves to watch Arsenal playing attacking football, it certainly would not be my favoured decision from the Gunners boss. My favoured decision would be for Emery to start with Lacazette and Aubameyang in tandem up front and hopefully watch the fireworks. They have such a good understanding on the pitch and the pair are great to watch.
Squad management so important over the festive period
The festive period is always a busy one for Premier League teams. That means that squad management is vital for top bosses in the English top-flight, which means star players often rested for particular matches.
The reality of it is that Arsenal should beat Huddersfield without Aubameyang in their starting line-up. That means Emery may be thinking about resting the forward. However, I for one am hoping that he is named in the Gunners starting line-up for today’s game.
