Chelsea set to launch a bid for Arsenal midfielder

Posted on July 29, 2018 by David Nugent

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are set to launch a £30million move for Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey. The move would certainly be a surprising one from the Blues, at the minute it does not look like an unrealistic move. However, Arsenal boss Unai Emery recently stated that he is confident that Ramsey will sign a new deal with the Gunners.

Future at Arsenal in doubt

As we all know, Ramsey’s future at the club has been a hot topic this summer. The Welshman’s representatives are still negotiating with the club over a new deal for the midfielder, who has less than a year left on his current deal in north London.

Arsenal has again let a player run down his contract, and reports suggest that Ramsey is demanding around £250,000 per-week to sign an extension at the club. The fact that the Gunners broke their previously strict wage structure to give Mesut Ozil a contract reportedly worth around £350,000 has opened the floodgates.

Chelsea looking to add to their squad

For all the talk of Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard leaving for Real Madrid, there has been very little transfer activity since the arrival of former Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri.

The Blues only big signing this summer, not counting Rob Green of course, so far has been Brazilian central midfielder Jorginho, who arrived from Napoli, where he had played under Sarri.

The Italian coach has talked about his dislike of dealing with the transfer market. However, it seems unlikely that the Blues will not strengthen their squad further this summer.

Despite the reported interest from Chelsea, for some bizarre reason, the bookmakers have Liverpool and Everton as the favourites to sign the midfielder. Ramsey is odds of 8/1 to sign for Liverpool, while he is 16/1 to sign for the Toffees.

Either of those moves looks highly unlikely at the minute, as both have other priorities this summer. Chelsea looks the more likely move if he leaves north London.

Likely to stay

Although it is not impossible that Ramsey will make a move to Chelsea, I think that the midfielder is more likely to sign a new deal in north London. However, his advisors may use the reported interest from Chelsea in getting the deal he wants at Arsenal.

Ramsey is a decent player, but he needs to find major consistency in the new season if the reports of his wage demands are accurate.

Will Aaron Ramsey stay at Arsenal this summer?
