Arsenal defender Calum Chambers will be joining Middlesbrough on a season-long loan, according to the latest reports, and the news has been well received by the supporters.
The English starlet was going to have a tough task of securing regular playing time at the Emirates following the capture of Shkodran Mustafi, especially with summer recruit Rob Holding also in front of him in the pecking order.
And seeing as how Gabriel Paulista and Per Mertesacker will eventually recover from injury, everybody at the club was happy to see Chambers join Aitor Karanka’s high-flying side.
The talented defender has seen his first team opportunities severely limited at the Emirates, following the impressive maiden season, and he only started 2 Premier League fixtures last term.
Chambers scored in his only start this term as Arsenal were beaten by Liverpool on the opening day, and he will now be hoping to feature on regular basis for Boro, who will be hoping to avoid a difficult relegation tussle.
The 21-year-old will have a very good chance of nailing down a regular starting berth at the Riverside, as he will either be vying Daniele Ayala and Ben Gibson for a place in the heart of defence, or Emiliano Nsue for the right-back position.
The Arsenal supporters seem to agree that a loan move to Middlesbrough should have a very positive effect on Chambers’ career as he will not only be working with Aitor Karanka, but also gain some much needed first team experience.
Hopefully, the defender will do well enough to secure his place in the Arsenal squad for the 2017/2018 season and prove Arsene Wenger didn’t make a mistake when he splashed out £16 million on his services.
