Aubameyang on the verge of Arsenal record

Posted on January 11, 2019 by Harry Kettle

It’s always fun to take a look at where and how your top stars have been thriving. Whether it be due to hard work or raw talent, or perhaps a combination of both, it’s a real achievement to say you’ve succeeded in a division like the Premier League. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is one man who truly can say that he’s had a great start to life at the Emirates, and we don’t say that lightly.

Living the high life

The forward has been able to link up masterfully with some of Arsenal’s finest stars, and as a result, he’s been scoring for fun. He’s also contributed to the squad in other ways, but let’s face it, when you bring in a forward of his calibre and reputation you expect him to find some consistency.

Now, the 29 year old is on the verge of achieving something special. If he can score against West Ham United at the weekend, he’ll break the record for the shortest amount of time taken by an Arsenal player to reach 25 Premier League goals. Unsurprisingly he’ll be beating out some seriously iconic competition, but what may perhaps come as a shock is just how much quicker he’s been than the rest.

Making history

Emmanuel Adebayor is in at 5th spot having taken 62 games to reach the magic 25 total, with Alexis Sanchez in 4th with 59. Ian Wright is in at third place with 51, and of course, the legendary Thierry Henry took just 42 games to reach 25 goals. While that’s all very impressive and everything, Auba has the chance to blow them out of the water – because he’ll have done it in just 35 games if he nets against the Hammers.

That’s no small accomplishment by any stretch of the imagination, and he deserves to be recognised for that kind of achievement. He has been a massively influential player for Arsenal Football Club, and as well as that record, he’ll also clock in at 5th spot in the overall Premier League rankings for the very same criteria. In that instance he falls behind Torres (34), Shearer (34), Andy Cole (27), and Kevin Phillips who managed it in an absolutely ridiculous 26 games.

What’s your favourite memory from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s time at Arsenal so far?
