Aubameyang & AFTV controversy continues

Posted on November 12, 2019 by Harry Kettle

When the international break dawns on you it can be easy to get distracted with issues that don’t usually pop up when the domestic season is in full flow. That’s kind of one of the amusing points of the international break because not only does it give us a break from seeing Arsenal disappoint us every week, but it also opens our eyes up to a multitude of other issues.

Wait, what?

We’ve all heard the rumours circulating around the Emirates in relation to club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The star striker has been on a sensational run of form so far this season, helping to keep his side’s head above water in times when it was pretty clear to see Arsenal were struggling. Even with that being the case, though, even Auba isn’t able to shy away from controversy from time to time.

The controversy stems from Aubameyang’s apparent friendship with Troopz, a well known personality from the controversial AFTV fan channel. For those of you who have been living under a rock, AFTV features a series of fans who give their thoughts and opinions on the current state of the club. Troopz is one of the featured members alongside DT, but according to recent reports, he has a closer relationship with Auba than many may have previously known.

It feels like an excuse

The accusation being thrown in Aubameyang’s direction is that he allowed Troopz to use his executive box to watch games, even personally inviting him up there. The forward and Troopz have both since responded to these claims, with the report also suggesting that some members of the squad aren’t happy to see Aubameyang interacting with someone like him on this level – mainly because of how critical he’s been of certain players. In particular, his recent comments about Granit Xhaka aren’t said to have gone down well within the club.

In truth, we tend to believe this is all just a little bit ridiculous. The problems are on the pitch and the issues do not lie within a fan channel. People can go after AFTV all they want and somewhat understandably so, but they aren’t impacting what’s going on within the club right now and that’s all that needs to be said on the matter.

What are your thoughts on the issue?
